The Houee met at 2.30 p.m. «tJBSTIONB Replying to questions it was stated that Mr 0. Y. O'Connor had been paid £400 m a bonus by authority of the late Government, and was In receipt of £800 per annum at the time, but' that the Minister for Public Works did not consider tha bonus unwarranted as Mr O'Connor was one of the hardest , worked officers. As far as the Minister knew he had been offered an appointment by the Westport Harbor Board at £1000 per aunum ; that the question of appointing the Railway Commissioners was still under consideration ; that the police were on the track of the Wairau wife murderer, and that it was hoped he would be delivered up to justice ; that Government had not yet deoided what steps to take m regard to the question of Chinese immigration ; that the Inspeotor of Mines would be sent to Makakapaw* (Marlborough) to report on the new gold, fields m that locality: BILLS A number ot Bill on matters of local interest were passed. * ' ' '
