MR ALDRIDGE IN ASHBURTON.
TO THE EBITOB. Sir, — In your iaaue of last evening there appeared a letter by Me W. E, Oollinß, having reference to an extract you published regarding- Mr Aldridge's reoent meetings here. The letter is a somewhat remarkable one from beginning to end, and does no credit to Mr Collins. At the outset he charges Mr Aldrldge with " making the moat of a ve-y little matter." Now, if Mr Oolllna were m any way superior to Mr Aldrldge he would never have written that letter, as he is doiog the very same thing whioa he charges Mr Aldrldge with having done. Mr Aldrldge has every right to report his meetings fully, and m mentioning the vote of thanks passed to him hera ha has only done what anyone else would have done ; and It ahowa that the mover and seconder were free from bias. Mr Aldridge receives votes of thanka wherever he lectures, and the statement of Mr Collins that "Mi Aldrldge or his frienda have thought fit to use the vote of thanks as an Influence m favor of their oaus*," ia altogether too absurd to need a moment's thought, Does Mr OolHna BUppoae that the eucoeas of Mr Aldrldge 'a causa depends upon the fact of a vote of thanka having been moved and seconded by two promlueut Wesleyan's Mr Oollirs does not question the trath of Mr Aldridge's report, yet he is pleased to define It " Yankee gosh," According to Mr Colllnn' definition, there ia a great deal of " Yankee gush " published now-a--days, and m a denominational paper, of whloh 1)6 knows more aboat than ha does of the " Bible Standard," I have read a great deal of it- I can bear testimony to the truth of Mr Aldridge'a report having attended the whole of his meetings, and also to the fact that he not only ''labored hard to enforce what he taught," but has bean successful to a greater extent than what Mr Collins may think, and that many who formerly believed m the hideoua dogma of eternal .torment have since renounced it. I am, etc., Fair Plat. Aahburton, June 6th, 1888.
