THE ASHBURTON HO UNDS,
Here's to the horse and his rider too, of course ; And here's to the rally o' the hunt, boys ; And here's to the friend who can struggle to the end ; And here's to the tally-ho m front, boys. Tuesday, 7th May, was a day to be remembered m the annals of hunting m the Aahbnrton district. The meet took plaoa at Mesßra Allngton and Bowyer's, Groxby, Oairnbrae. Punctually to he minute Warner, tho huntsman, trottod out his little pack, followed by aome thirty of our keenest sportsman, into one of our boats' paddocks, whero pnss wae quickly found, and went away m right Kpod earnest. After a Bmart burat of fifteen minutes a kill took place m the open. The company then adjourned to the homestead, partaking of an excellent lunch, which, after justice had been done and the proverbial pipe smoked, another start was made. " Drawing " a paddock next to the homestead, the hounds " found," after a few minutes, end rattled after the quarry for about a mile and a half m the direction of the Rakaia, the hare then tacking the file ran through Me- era Boag and Jamiesoo's properties Grossing the road we found puss hud made a big circle towards Methven and was heading back to the hemestead. Cfbs&lng the road again m ! o Mr Jameson's ' stubble and on into the turnips, and after ft rattling 45 minutes the pack killed again m the open. Another good 34 minutes run was atao (secured and, undoubtedly, the hounds would have killed their third hare, had not darkness Bet m, which necessitated their being whipped off. The little pack has been showing excellent sport for so early m the season and we hope to see many of pur neighboring sportsmen m the field with our pack before long, " Encore."
