THE TUAPEKA HOMICIDE
A DETERMINED MINORITY.
(frRR PRKSS .ASSOCIATION.)
Dunedin, Maroh 15. It appears that a majority of the jury at tbe inquest on the luepeka Mouth Tragedy were .m favor of returning a verdict of murder. At first only two favored a verdict of manslaughter, but the minority signified their intention of holding out all night rather than give m, and so tbe majority were gradually talked over. Two men m favor of a verdict of manslaughter Bucceeded m converting one of the other aide to their views, and for a considerable time the forces were equal. Then another convert was made, and subsequently still another, tut the laßt man held out stubbornly for some time. At length he agreed to a verdict of manflaoghter. It remains to be seen whether the prisoner will not be charged with murder at the Supreme Conrt.
