VICTORIA.
Melbourne, March 15
On the arrival of the Orient Company's steamer Ormuz she was boarded by detectives, who instituted a strict search. The object of the visit is a secret. Carroll, the self-accused murderer, had been trying to get a passage to England, but hearing that his brother had divulged the secret of his imprisonment for assault, he became downcast and said he might as well tell of the other crime; He had intended to do so sooner or later, being broken down bj the memory of it. He states that he only struck the girl one blow. Carroll seems to be m full possession of his faculties, and so far there is no ground for disbelieving that his story is genuine.
