The election of the Licensing Committee for the Newmarket district waß held today, when the candidates of the modetahe party were returned. Feeling ran high, land considerable interest waa taken m the result.* Duxbdin. March 13. A. At a meeting of the sympathisers with the Home Kale for Ireland movement, it was resolved, on tha motion of Bishop jJloran, that subscription listo be opened to aid tho movement. An inquiry wa3 held to-day into the origin of the fire at a hoaae In Oarglll street, occupied by Mrs Brady. The evidence showed she had disposed of some of the furniture to a boarder, and had given dther boarders notioe of her Intention to give ap housekeeping, although she had not given notice of her intention to the landlord. She was also m monetary difficulties. The jury returned an open verdiot.

Invekoahgill, March 13, Timothy Gorman, a farmer at Dlpton, haa been committed for trial at the Supreme Oonrt for tha alleged theft of aheep belonging to a neighboring Bottler and to the Moorabool Estate Company.
