PAKiiA, March 7. The usual montli'y mooting of the 6OHOOL COMMITTEE was held at the Library on Wednesday evening. Present : Mea&ra Pyke (chairman), Broadbent, J. Turner, Johnston, and Oxley. The Chairman stated that m consequence of an outbreak of diphtheria it had been thought advisable to close the school for a fortnight from last Monday. The action was approved of, and it was left to the chairman to keep the Bohool closed for a longer time if necessary. It was stated that the diphtheria was caused by children using the water off tho roof, the (everlasting ?) pump being again out of order, consequently the well was of no use. The Chairman stated that for some yearn the present pump had cost about £10 per auouui for repairs and he had therefore written asking the Board of Education to provide a new one. The rooms m the school had been well fumigated, and on 'he motion of Mr Oxlsy it was resolved that this Bhould be done week.ly. Accounts being passed for payment the meeting adjour cd. LIBRAKY COMMITTEE. An adjourned meeting of the above was held m th« Library. Present: Messrs Pyko (chairman), Cox, Makeig Blackburn, J (urnor, Oxley, and C. W. Turner. Turner a3ked the Chairman how it was tho meeting was not hel ' at the appoiated hour ; he had oorae to the room at seven o'clock and found it occupied by another meeting, aod he had to go o >U de and sit on tbo kerbstone ; he thought it was but eoant courtsey to the members of the Committee.
Tho Chairman expressed his regret at the mistake, and was very sorry th*t Mr Turner should have had to wait, but at tho time of arranging lor the meeting the school meeting had been overlooked. The matter then dropped. A letter waß received from the Commissioner of Crown Lands intimating that Reserve 1669 was reserved for I library purposes. On the motion of Mr C. "W, Turner it wns lvsolved to write to the Commissioner j aekiog him to recommend the Governor to Ki-unt power to tho Committee to lease for a term of ye irs such portiou of tho reserve as waß not required for the building. Tlie matter of ordering papers and periodicals was left m the hands of tbo Chairman, who was requested to add to the list the •' American Agriculturist." Th« Chairman and Messrs Mak.ig and Broadbont were appoiated a sub Committee to arrange übout the purohaae of now books, locall> and at Home, and to enquire if other libraries would join m sendi'g an order Homo.
