VICTORIA.
Mhlbourne, March 1.
Sidney Jenkins, formerly manager m the Bank of Australasia, has been arrested for the larceny of 500 cancelled notes from that bank. Accused left the bank about the time it was reported that the cancelled notes were m circulation m December last, and although he has done no work since he always had plenty of money.
The Board of Conciliation have settled the dispute which existed between the employers and employees m the iron trade. They have fixed eight hours to be the day's work, to be paid at a minimum of 6s gd per day, overtime to be paid at a fixed rate.
Victoria will be represented at the Tariff Conference which is to be held at Brussels.
Captain Whitney, of Auckland, has written to the Defence Minister relative to the establishment of a cartridge factory m Victoria, and the latter is of opinion that arrangements may be made if a suitable site can be found.
