Mr Varney Patkes, a member for one of the seats for the district of Central Cumberland, m the House of Assembly, has resigned, owing to pres^ sure of private business.

The Zigzag Colliery at Lithgow is partly at work again, the damage sustained by the recent accident, which was not so extensive as at first believed, having been repaired.
In consequence of the great number of suicides during the past few weeks, "Rough on Rats," and other patent poisons have been brought under the provisions of the Poisons Act.
The new Fire Brigade Station was opened this evening. It cost^i^ooo, and contains all the latest American and English appliances, including engines which can be m full working order m fifteen seconds,
