Adelaide, F braary 8 Major-General Dowms, R.A.,C M.G., has been appointed Colonel-Comman-dant of the Volunteer Military Force for a term of five years.
The result of the Mount Morgan appeal case has caused a rise m the shares of that Company, and shares m the Jumpers Companies have fallen to nil.
Mr Joseph Smith, of the Great Western Railway Company, has been app hied Chairman of the South Australian Railway Commission at a Salary of per annum. There were fifty applications for the position. Three tenders have been received locally for the construction of a locomotive, but ai the lowest price is thirty per cent above the average cost of imported engines, none have been accepted, and the Government are hesitating at to what course to adopt.
