CONFERENCE OF PREMIERS.
' Melbourne February 4. It is understood that'after the breaking up of the Federal Conference last week the Premiers of Australian colonies held a conference on tbe questions discussed at the meeting. One of the results is that the Hon T. Playford, Premier of South Australia, was favorably impressed with the benefits i likely to accrue from Federation, and ne will urge upon the South Australian Parliamentary representatives the advantages to be gained and will move a resolution that the colony should join the Council. The question of asking one of the mos>t prominent officers m the Imperial army to visit the colonies and report on the harbor defences and the effectiveness of tbe land forces was also discussed. Sir Henry : Parkes, Premier of New South Wales, opposed asking any of the Imperial 1 officers. It was decided not to allow the matter to' be dropped altogether, 1 and Sir Frederick Roberts will most 1 likely be asked to make the repoit.
