The number of cattle entered was a slight inorease on that of last year, and the animals generally were brought on to the ground m better show condition, In shorthorns Meesis Small and Williams were the only exhibitors. The former gained first aud seoond respectively m tbe clasß for bul.'s calved since July 1, 1886, first for cow of any age, and seoond and highly oommended m helfera. Mr Williams gained a first for a nice heifer and a seoond for a cow. Messrs Clarke Bros, the well-known breeders of Ayrshlres had things pretty much theis own way In that section of the show, they being tne solo exhibitors except ln one olass, that for bull of any age, In which Mr S. Donaldson showed an animal, " The Baron," whloh secured first prize. In all tbe other olbsbbb, as before stated, Messrs Clarke Bros, had no competitors, and carried off all the prizes. The cattle shown by them were a very fine lot, whioh would bave been very hard to boat. They have made the breeding of Ayrshlres a specialty, and do a large export trade. In any other breed only Mr A. Duncan's Polled Anguß boll was entered, but the same exhibitor showed three grand heifers bnt for exhibition only. For the Soolety's prize for the best cow of any age, m milk or m calf, Mr Small's two entries took fiißt and second His Dairymaid was also first as best milch of any age or breed, but Mr Tucker's Sarah gained Mr Orr's guinea In the iame cltir,
