DRAUGHT HORSES.
The show of draught horaoa was a | premier feature, tha number of exhibits I being large and the qaalhy superb. For j the prizes offared for beat entire of any I age, there were three competitors, Mr WtathaH's Rant m Robin, Mr Gilmour's Kelvin (by Prinoe Royal,) and Mr A. Dawson's Major. All were m the pink of condition, but Kelvin's claim to precedence oould not he disputed, and he once more carried off first honors, Major taking second. The class for throe-year-old entires brought into the ring ' a Bplendid entry of five, far and away the beat lot of thoir age over seen In ABhburton; and such aa it would be hard to be-t In Scotland Itself. Tneaa were, Mr Max F.iedlander'B Johnny's Fancy, by Lord Hallsbary dam Sally 2nd, bred b> Mr James Gow, of the Taieri ; Mr Thomus Langley's Conqueror, also by Lord Siltsbury, ont of Hcotoh .Annie; Mr Johu Small's Vanquisher, by Young Vanquisher (imported), dam Tibbie by PrlDoo Koyal ; aud. Mr Donls Mcliendry'u Diplomacy, by Lord Bjaoonsfield, dam Pleasant, bred by Mr J. Grigg, The Judges took great pains with this class, and eventually awarded first honors to Diplomacy, a judgment m whioh ihe spectators seemed generally to concur, Conqueror being placed 06oond, Vanquisher third, and Johnuy'B Fancy fourth. M>sars Frledlandet Bro»'. bpcotal priza of 3 guineas sor the beat 3 year old entire, the property of a resident m the county, followed the verdiot, being awarded to Diplomaoy. Of 2 year-old entires, there i was only one entry, bat what was laoking m number was fully made up m quality ; Messrs Clarke Bros' winning a well deserved .first priza for a very handsome and promising youngster, a rich bay (Hero), showing nearly all the good points of his aire Kelvin. His dam fa the well-known mare, Bloaaom, herself ''one of the aristocracy of her breed Hero took first pr.zi »s a yearling last year and bids fair to add many more to his laurels ln years to come. The show of brood mares m foal, or with foal at foot, we»B magnificent, Mr Small contributing two, Mesare Clarke Broß*. three, and Mesßra J. Grlgg and A. Friaby two eaoh, making altogether a ring of nine of superb quality. First honor b were awarded to a grand bay marc, Flower (m foal to Yonng Banker), tho property of Clarke Brothers ; second to Mr A. Frißby'a "Jewel," Mr J. Grieg's Fanny being highly commended. For best mare with two of her progeny, there weie three entries, two contributed by Mesats Clarke Bros., and the third by Mr John Small. The latter consisted of the well-known priza-wlnner Darnell, with three-year-old and yearling fillies, b th by Kelvin. Messrs Clarke Bros showed their mare Blossom with the pr'zi-wlnner Hero ' and a four-year-old Flower, by Crowa Prinoe, also .he mare Missy wlih Vi let and Duke, both by Lincolnshire Hero. Tho last named exhibitors were placed firat with Blossom, and obtained a highly commended for their other exhibit, second prize being awarded to Mr Small. Of dry mares, there was an exoellent show of five, Meears Clarke Bros, contributing three and Messrs Gilmour and Shearer one eooh. The red ribbon of precedence was adjudged to Clarke Bros. Marchioness, seoond prize to the Bame owuers' Bess, and highly commended to Mr John Shearer's Jane, by Victor, Of three-year-old fillies, a triplet waa led. into the ring, Mr Small exhibiting two daughters of Kelvin, Diamond and Polly, and MesBBS Clarke Bros Luoy, out of Blossom, by the same sire. They wero placed as entered, viz, Diamond first, Polly seoond, and Lucy third. Five two-year-olds faced the Judges, but do not oall for any special remark. First honors went to Mr John Shearer for a filly by Kelvin, and seoond to Mr Harland Grayburn for Uno, by So prise . The special prize offered by Mr John G'Sbea for beet tvro-year-old by Royal Conqueror w*b awarded to a big upstanding colt shown by Mr Daniel McS weeny. Of yearling fillies, there were three shown, a very fair lot, first priza falling to Messrs Mawson Bros, Prido of the lalea, by Prinoe of the Isles (imported), second to Mr John Small, for Violet, by Kelvin, and third to Mr G. J. Bland, for Venus, by Kelvin, which laßt aloo took the speolal prize offered by Mr Gilmour for best filly by Kelvin, for which she was the only entry Of geldings of any age, there' was a magnificent Bhow, eight being brought into the ring whioh would have been aoredit to any ahow yard m the world. Of these Mr Gilmour contributed four, Messrs Clarke Bros threo, and Mr J. MoOafferty one. This olaes waa the theme of general admiration and gave the judges no little difficulty. The awards. • were : — First prize, Mr J. MoCafferty's Wallace ; secpu'd, Mr John Gilmour's Charlie by Glen Roy ; highly commended, Messrs Clarke ..Bros' Champ ; commended, s%me exhibitors' Duke.. There were no three year-old geldings shown and only one exhibit ln the class for two-year-olds, m which Messrs Clarke Bros were awarded a first for, their chestnut gelding Prinoe. Of yearling colts or geldings there were three exhibited. Honors were awarded as follows : 1 and 2J. Gilmour ; highly commended, OJarke Bros. The last named exhibitors also Beoured (unopposed) Mr Gilmour's speolal prize for beat yearling by Kelvin. Of yearling colta or lillles, there were only two shown, Messrs Mawson Bros taking firßt with Pride of the laleß, and Mr Small seoond with a filly by Kelvin out of Darnell. For beat mare oi; gelding suitable for a oarrlet'a cart, the Association's prize, and also the special prize offered by Mr Tait, was awarded to Mr Grlgg's Damsel the very beau ideal of this Btamp of horse, For best team of two horses, there were five entries, two owned by Mr Gilmour, two by Messrs",' Clarke Bros., and > one by Mr John Shearer. Altogether this was a very fine class. First prize, also Messrs Steeland Son's speolal prize, waa awarded to Meßarß Clarke Bros. (Champion and Duke) the same exhibitors also receiving second honors for a pair of mares, Bess and Marchioness. Of teams of three, thore wore four grand exhibits, honors being awarded bb follows : — Firat, Clarke Bros., Champ, Duko and Bob ; second, Clarke Bros. Bees, Marchioness and Prinoe ; Mr Heseltine's speolal prlza for best shaft and lead harness was awarded to Mr John Gilmour,
