He went into the stableloft early In the morning and committed tbe act, He was not dtaoovered for nearly two honrs after when on the point of death. A Mysterou's Death. "Carterton, October 13. Arthur Moore, a pupil teacher at Carterton school, was found shot dead m the school this morning. He wont to the head-master for the keys to open the T school and ring the bell. Bothunp, 3 the assistant master, not hearing the bell I ring went for the key but ascertained , that Moore had obtained it. Bethune r forced the school door open, but the inside door was looked and the key maid?. Getting through the window jja smelt \ powder and looking round saw Mpore ' lying dead. His head was terribly r shattered. One of tbe school carbines 1 was lying alongside him. Moore was studying with Bsthune till 9 last night. No reason Is assigned for the fearful aot. Muoh sympathy is felt for his family who have resided here since the formation of the settlement. Floods. Blenheim, Ootober 13. Only the low-lying portions of the town were flooded on Tuesday night, and there was a considerable depth of water m some Btreotß, and m a few instances it found Its way through the houses. Business people m the centre of the town lifted their gooda from the ground floors and very little damage was d<>ne m the shops. The streets and footpaths m some portions of the borough have suffered considerably by the current. There was an immense body of water running down the Onaka, and the telegraph poles on the Middle road crossing were washed down. No damage worth speaking about has been done either to embankments or to the property of settlers. The flood water has entirely disappeared from .the town. It is nowraining heavily and the Wairn and Opawa rivers aro rising. The flood yesterday was caused by fcho overflow of the Taylor and;Onaka rlvere. Sudden Death.
