SUPREME COURT
At Christchurch yesterday : — William Sobafer was acquitted of a charge of attempting to do grievonß bodily harm at Ashburton. The following prisoners pleaded guilty : — William Bryne Storey, forgery ; Albert John Fobs, John Bobs, and Leonard Settatß (three lada% to elx l charges of breaking and entering ; Albert J. Searle, and John Boas, setting fire to the pzemisea of Frederick G tbites ; Gordon McEwen, larceny ; Fredk. Cooper cattle stealing. In all the above cases sentence was deferred. James White pleaded gnilty to horse stealing, and was sentenced to 12 monthi' hard labor. The grand jury made a presentment expressing regret at the indisposition of Mr Justice Johnston, and a hope that he might be speedily restored to health. Trne bills were found m all the cases except that of James Wilson, for larceny, ia which the principal witness, J, H. Maloae failed io appear. Hlb recognisances were ordered to be estreated. Weiijngton, October 4. The following sentences were irflioted at the Supreme Court this morning: — Mary Miller, larceny, si* months ; Bob Whltchnrcb, breaking and entering, twelvemonths; Edward Elton, djttp, two yeata. Leonard Tyler pleaded guilty to two charges of breaking and entering and was remaoded for sentence. Judge Richmond has decided that the Official Assignee most admit the Oity Advance Company's claim to prove for £1900 on Waters' estate, Chbistchcboh, October 4. At the Supreme Court sentences wera passed :— Charles BUson, larceny, 3 yeara penal servitude ; John Fisher, burglary, 15 months hard labor { M. B Storey, 2 years hard labor ; Frederick Cooper, cattle stealing, 3 years penal servitude j Gordon MoEwen. larceny six months probation.
