Oar South Rakaia correspondent, writing yesterday, says : — The weather here has been very cold since Saturday morning. Daring the day, the wind vra3 from the south-east, and heavy showers of rain and hall fell. About half-past sine m the evening, heavy rain s»t In from the south-east, accompanied with a bitterly old wind, and continued until 6 o'clock on Snnday evening, when thera wm a little break. Heavy Bhowerß continued till early this morning. This is the heaviest rain we have had for some ionr years, A quantity ot water is lying In the low paddocks, and the old dry creak had a stream nearly four feet deep. Fortunately, most of the lambing here is over, bat those who are m the thick of it most hate suffered considerably. The Methven traitf was stuck up between Ureil and Methven, and as the wires are down, we have no particulars to hand. The storm water which flooded a great deal of the district about- Wheatstone and Waterton yesterday has now disappeared, —though the oreeks are still running high. The bridge over Taylor'B creek on Graham's road has collapsed, and we hear that the bridge on Beach road over the •ame creek has also Buffered to some extent. The Longbeach coach was unable to get through to Aehbutton today, but the coach proprietor, Mr Bond rode m with the mails.
