Auckland, October 3. A largely attended public meeting called by the Mayor, was held at Hamilton on Saturday, to consider the question of the gold discovery at Waihou, when It was resolved to urge upon the Government the great necessity for taking steps to secure to the public the full benefit of the gold deposit m the Thames Valley. A committee was formed with this object. A rumor is current that gold has been discovered at Pukekohe West, similar to that discovered at Waitoa. It is Bald that Mr Dargaville intends to contest the validity of the Marsden election, on the alleged ground that Mr Thompson did not deposit £10 with the Returning Officer at the Domination. At the declaration of fbe polls for the suburban seats on Saturday and today, regret was expressed at the defeat of Bir Robert Stoat and Mr Bryce, particularly the lttter. Wahgantjj, October 3.
