la the course of an Interesting address delivered la JJunedin by the Rev A. C. Gllllfi, he gave the following useful advice to boys : Train yourselves now to Industry and self-restraint. As without water one cannot learn to swim, so with©nt hard -work yon can never rise above the commonplace drone ot society. Rely upon your own strength of body and mind. Take yonr star — self-reliance, faith In God, boneny toward man,andporseYer< Ing industry. Write on your banner : "Lack ie a fool; Plack is a hero. " Think well of yourselves, without being either proud or vain. Be dignified, not pedantic; reserved, not haughty . Be neither eervile to yonr superiors nor stern to your Inferiors. Ba respectful to all, but familiar with no moie than one m a thousand outside of your own family. Ahbids your own position ; be decided, think for yourselves, and then strike out for the ihore. Energy, punctuality, and nntonquerable determination, with a pure motive, are the levers that move and raise the world out of the rut of selfishness, and make it revolve on a new axis of rlghteouenets, prosperty, aud peace. Den t drink intoxicating liquors ; don't chew tobacoo ; don't smoke. Don't attend promiscuous balls. Don't swear — a gentleman nsver does, Don't lie. finware of aumyolrcßsesand theatres. Don't gamble or bet m any form. Don't steal. Don't deceive by wearing two faces — one for our presence end another for our absence. Don't read either common novels or senration al newspapers. Read history , geegraphy t science, travels, and blograpbj J Pon't gossip. Respeot the aged, the meral, and the educated. Don't marry till 70a are able to keep bouse comfortably. Be In earnest, Don't trifle, but cultivate wit and humour of a high aud pire order. Ed joy a good joke. Laugh heartily now and then ; I suspect those who dent. Be independent without being Insolent, and be self-reliant without being self- conceited. Advertise your business, yet not so as to m j are others m the same line. Make money honestly, and then do good with it. Don't die rich ; It's a bad sign. Enjoy the heaven of eceing your money doing good to others around you. Work hard, study faithfully, and determine to be second to none m point of honest wealth, charity, knowledge, manners, and moral purity. Whatever you do, do thoroughly. Fear God, and love your parents, brothers, sisters, friends, neighbors, and fellow beings m general. Be careful of your own and everybody else's moral character and repotation. Love jonr country, and obey Ite laws. Love truth, honor and virtue Study your Bible, live according to ite requirements, and you will be happy for ever,
