DISCONTENTED VOLUNTEERS
Auckland, July 27. At a parade of the Devonport Navals last night Msjor-General Whltmore attended, and addressed the men with re* ference to disagreements which have been existing m the Company for some time past, He said he had examined the accounts, and found them correct, and he exonerated the Captain of tbe Company (Fenton) from blame m connection with this matter. Sir G. Whltmore ssked the men to show by holding up their hands that they also exonerated the Captain, but three only held up their handa, and Sir G. Whltmore thon Baid the only course waa to disband, remarking he never before felt bo sorry- at onoh an event. Several men said they desired a new captain as the only solution of tho difficulty. Sir G: Whitmore announced that all those who wished to leave could do so, and he would give Captain Fenton five days to reoruit np to forty-live : failing this, the Corps would bo disbanded . He then took his departure, and a number of the men handed m their arms.
