The Reported Oatt'e Disease.
Wellington, July 14.
A telegram has been received from Mr Russell, the only owner whoso cattle wore affeoted in Wairarapa, stating that they are only suffering^ from eating ergot of rye (n the padoiocks, Six have been destroyed. The feet swell and drop off None but pure breds are affected, and Mr Russell ia of opinion the disease Is not contagious. Mr Bayloy, Ohief Inspeotor, is going up to thoroughly investigate the matter. A Notel Point. The first of the oUlms against the Corporation for compensation for loss of, frontage by the Te Aro reclamation came on to-day, Samuel Wood, ship builder, o'aimlng £1500. A point was raised that he had long ago loet his water right through tho sea reoeeding from his section, add it was mentioned that this position would ba fully developed in another of the cases. It is the first time such a point has occurred in the New Zealand law It Is under stood the right will bo claimed where the original grant shows high; water mark as tho boundary to follow the water, and the decision of the Court will be extremely important

A two-year-old bod of a man named Norgate, living at Lyttelton wbb killed today through drinking scalding tea out of a teapot.

Rifle Association.
Some of the officers commanding Otago Corps are endeavoring to get tbe date of the annual meeting of the Now Zaaland Rifls Association changed from the end of February to January, to commence not later than the 15th of that month. The principal ground glvnn for tho proposed change is that harvesting operations are in full swing ln February and March.
