MOUNT SOMERS ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the j above Board was held m the office, Mount Somerp, en Monday, Juno 6th. Present — Messrs Harrison, McFailane, Edson and Chapman. This being tbe first meeting of tbo new Board, Mr W. O Walker wbb olected Chairman, and m his absence Mr McFarlano took the chair for the meeting. overseeb's report. The Overseer's report was read and con. sidered.— Tenders were ordered to bo I called for casing tho grade of the cutting near tho Alford Forest Hotel. — Tenders were ordered to be caHcd for shingling tbe road leading to tho Mount Somers Railway Station.— Tenders were ordered to be called for keeping m repair the road from the Mount Sore era Railway Station to the Mount Homers coal pit. The Overseer report- dthat Mr MoLean's men had been taking shingle from near a groin on Boyd's Rood. Resolved that Mr McLean bo requested to roplaco tho shingle at once, or tho work would be done at his expense. TENDERS. Tenders wero opened for the supply of about 3C ) yards of shingle, to be delivered on the Gorge Boai, t rjwl that of Mr D. Forbeß was accepted. | CORRESPONDENCE. ; Letters were read (1) from Messrs Simpeon and Hartnell, asking for peuiis - fljon to cut timber on one of the Board's | Bush roads.— Granted, subject to tho usual conditions. — (2) From Mr F. Sharpe, asking for certain repairs to cottage. The Overseer was ordered to get it done at once;-i-(3) From Mr B F. Wright, asking j that the road to tho coal pit be repaired. Resolved to expend £2 on condition that Mr Wright give a similar Bum.— (4) From Mr H. Knight and 29 others, asking that tbe grade of the cutting near the Alford Forest Hotel be reduced. — The Clerk was instructed to reply that the work was going to be done. — (6) From JMr James King and five otbers, asking that the road to their seotions be made passable.— Tho Overseer was instructed to report on the road at the next meeting of tbe Board. — (6) From tbo Ashbui ton County Council, stating that tie sum of £22 15b 6d wai now available for the purchase of poisoned wheat.— (7) Prom the eatae, stating that Mr A . W. Smith's application for a loasa of gravel pit reserve had been granted. ALFORD FORE6T ROAD. In regard to the Alford Forest road from the North Ashburtoa bridge to tl c Mount Somera Railway Station, it was re< solved to aßk the Ashburton County Council to contribute towards effeoting certain repairs.
