ASHBURTON COUNTY COUNCIL
The following business was transacted after we went to press yesterday; — The Council had it appeared spent a sum of money oa Improving the drain, at the joint request of both the parties. After a long diaouaeion as to whether It was n case, m which the Council ooald interfere, it was decided to instruct the Engineer io report, PLANTING COMMITTEE. The Planting Committee reported that only one tender f -r the reserve advertised for had been received, and ths Oommittej did not recommend its acceptance, The tender of P. Twomey for grabbing goree at £8. £4 10d, and £2 10j h»d been accepted. IRRIGATION. The sub committee appointed to select a block of land suitable for an irrigation farm reported th.it they had inspected all the bloeka submitted, but fou-id that m all tha great drawback was the preaeut coat of eupplying a euffioient quantity o wator. The O.'inmittre had selected Plantation Rvb rye 17G7, consisting of 69 acres, m the Wukauui district. Tiub blook was available for immediate operalions, and the Committee asked the approval of fh<j O.mncil for their action. Tha report was adopted, and cm the rr»'»tion of Mr Wriuht, accorded by Mr Donald McLean, it was resolved, "That M^sara Cosier, Harper, and tesd'ey bo appointed a committee to mauage <he exparmontiil ir t/ation fsirm MOUNT SOMBMS TH4MWAY. DOGS. It was resolved to inßtruct the police to prooeed against the owners of unregistered dogs. WAKAKpi ROAD DISTRICT. The Engineer was insttuoted to attend to culverts. CLOSING ROAD. Mesars Coster, Loadle/, and Jackson were ro-appointod a Committee to oon» alder the question of the ro»d m \h<\ Raogitata distrlot, petitions for and against the closing of wh'.oh were reoelved by the Council. The Council then adjourned.
