CORN EXCHANGE

The following is the Corn Exchange report for tbe week ending Friday, April Ist : — Grain is faßt and steadily coming to band, and had sacks been available when required the chief part of the autumn threshing would have been complete. It is understood that the obief part of the Robert Sale shipment of sacks has already been taken by consumers, bo that there iB little obance of sacks falling i» value, eßpeoially m the face of a heavy orop of potatoes. Shipments to neighbouring colonies, as well as to London, are being steadily executed. The condition is muoh improved since tbe opening of the season. Wheat. — Tbe firm tone indicated last week |is fully maintained. Tusoan, which is chiefly wanted for immediate shipment, of course commands top value of 3s 4£d to 3s sd. Pearl and Hunter's, if prime, bring from 3s id to 33 4sd. Chicken wheat is scarce at 2s 9d to 2a lOd for clean broken, and up to 3a for whole wheat. Oats.— Shipments to London having been completed, for the time being, a slignt lull has been experienced, but it is not anticipated that prices will reoede more than temporarily. Quotations to-day are:— For Bhort heavy feed la 9d to Is 9Jd, and long descriptions Is 7d to Is Bd. Barley.— Considerable shipments oontinue to Australia, whioh makes local maltsters wore eager to do business, bnt the majority of Bamples are scarcely up to prime quality ; what few come up to the standard readily command 3s (id ; seoond quality 3s to 3s 3d. Feed is scaroe at 2s 6d. Beans and Peas.— Very little business doing m either line. Bye Grass has very little business to note, and values are unaltered. The same remark applies to Cocksfoot, Potatoes.— Enquiries are being made as to ihe probable opening priceß. Buyers are not disposed to offer over 35s f.o.b. saoks included. Dairy Produce. — Prioes remain at last week's quotations with a very quiet market. The above quotations are for delivery f.o.k. Lyttelton, saoks inoluded.
