Brutal Firemen. Auckland, November 16. Four firemen of the s.s Tongariro, named Charles Porter, Fred Wilson, James Brady and CBcar Mess, were sentenced to two month ’ imprisonment at Polio Co irt to-day for seriously assaulting J. T. D Dine* ou the Bth inat, Tha Bench characterised the assault as brutal and unprovoked, and said that had Dinas been killed they would been indicted for murder. Porter, Wilson and Brady were sentenced to one month additional for resisting the police. Few Government Printing Office. Wellington, November *6.0 The tender uf Messrs Carmichael and R, ns of Christchurch has been accepted for the new Government printing office at Wellington The price Is under £12,000 The building is to be completed within nine months. Ministerial. The Minister of Public Works leaves for Christchurch to-morrow on business connected with the Midland Railway. He will be absent a week. A fall meeting of the Cabinet is called for December Ist. Government will shortly advertise another contract at the northern end of the mala trunk line. Wellington Mayoralty. Messrs George Fisher and Samuel Brown were nominated for the mayoralty to-day. The election takes place on the 24th last Mr Barnes’ Successor. Dunedin, November 16. Mr L. Carrd was nominated to-day for the City mayoralty.
