A PRIEST KILLED AT THE ALTAR.
The tragic death of Father Kavanagh has caused gjeat sensation in Dublin, where ho was well known as one of the moat prominent and eminent of the clergy of the Irish Catholic Church. Later particulars from Kildare show that his death was not caused by the fall of the altar, but by tbe fall of i statae which stood tbe altar. On being struck by tbe statue the unfortunate priest fell backward, his bead striking a marble step, inflicting a fearful wound, to which he succumbed in about an hour. The melancholy event cansed great excitement among tbe worshippers. It was through the intervention of the deceased that a settlement was effected with the Duke of Leinster at a critical period in the land agitation. Ha was a prominent figure in almost every Irish . movement of Importance.
