SPORTING.

TRAINING NOTES. Christchurch, October 29. This morning was very cold, heavy showers falling 'during training time. Maligner and Waltiri did rather over two miles, at a steady gallop. Tasman, with Hermitage and Uubina, hid a similar distance in good style. Pasha and Oretnorne galloped the Cup distance fast, the three-year-old having the best of the finishing spurt Ruby, after some slow exercise, went once round at nearly top pace, moving freely First Lord and Artillery were galloped, going only in moderate style. Patrician went two rounds in a very satisfactory manner. Chantilly and Fair Nell compassed a mile, singly, the colt showing best form General Thornton did a moderate gallop, moving nicely. Fonno showed to good advantage in rac ing half mile with Sextant. Most of the other Welcome candidates did fast work. Nelson was again an absentee, but is said to be nearly all right again, Kay’s team worked pivately, as did Lochiel and Moana. Alpine Rose did not come out till after breakfast Later. There is no doubt as to Nelson’s indisposition. Ha was not out on the course this morning, but’he is said to be recovering, and It is almost a certainty be will run.
