Melbourne, September 9

A dis'ardly attempt *o wreck a train has been made on the Melbourne-Qeelong line. Early on Saturday morning a ganger engaged in surveying the line discovered the fish plates of one of the rails had been tampered with, and an attempt made to remove the rail Just at the point where the line crosses a deep culvert. No doult If not discovered the resu’t would have been a disastrous accident. The police are actively endeavoring to trace tbe culprits. The foundation atone of tbe New Princess, was laid on Sep-ember 7th by Mrs J. 0. Stewart, wife of the Mayor of Melbourne.
