KIMBERLEY.
CONFLICTING REPORTS. Christchurch, Septembr 1 A passenger who went by the Triumph to Derby and has returned states that be considers there is nothing whatever yet to justify the rush to Kimberley. So far from there being 2000 men at Derby there were, only 20 J when the Triumph arrived, and probably not more that 30J on the field altogether. Ha remained at Derby five days, and says that he did not heat of any large finds of gold, and he considers that not more than SCO ounces have been taken out altogether from all parts of the field. The reports that have been circulated, he says, are garbled, inasmuch as only the good side has been told. Captain McGee, of the Triumph, which arrived at Lyttelton to-day, brings an account of a meeting at Derby on July 10, at which Dr Lovegrove, the Government resident, made a statement of the report given by Sergeant Troy. This report says that several diggers were doing very well at Kimberley, and made several very remunerative discoveries of gold. Captain McGee’s opinion is that the fields will ultimately be a groat success.
