LIVE STOCK MARKET.
Messrs Matson, Cox, and Co. report upon the live stock market for the Ashburton district for the week ending Aug. 24th as follows At the Ashburton tarda on Tuesday we held our usual weekly sale of sheep, cattle, and pigs. There was a moderate entry of sheep anl cattle, but no pigs came forward. In fat sheep there was only a small entry of good butchers’ quality, and the roat of the pens were filled with medium, which, not realising owners’ idea", were turned out unsold. In stores a couple of pens i of crossbred lambs caused some competition, and were eventually knocked down t 4s 6d and 5s ; they were both healthy lines, but not very b'g. In cattle there was a small entry, especially in fat, and butchers will bo forced to attend the Addington Yards for a supply. The prices realised are as under; —Fat crossbred wethers, 9s 6d, 10s fid, 10s 0d | merino wethers, good stores, 4s 8d ; merino ewes, in lamb, Is fid, 2s, 4s; cro abred ewes, in lamb, 5a 2d ; crossbred lambs, 4s fid and ss. In cattle, springers, £5 10s, £6, £4 7s fid ; store steers, £4 10s ; yearlings, £1 5s to £1 10s.
