THE JEWEL DISCOVERY AT TEMUKA.
lu reference to the jewellery found by Mr C )ir», at Tomuka, some interesting facts have been brought to light. Nearly twenty years ago Mr Greenfield, of the firm of Greenfield and L owenthal, jewellers, used frequently to atop at the Royal Hotel, Tomuka, then in the occupation of Mr J. A. Young. From thence he used to make short trips into the surrounding district, for the purpose of, disposing of and taking orders for, jewellery One evening, on returning to his room, Mr Greenfield discovered that he had bean robbed, and first complained to, and subsequently sued, Mr Young for the value of the missing articles. The case was dismissed, as the Jewellery had never been placed in Mr Young’s charge. The finding of the jewellery recently, has revived the old story, and some of the articles (notably the watch) have been identified as being among those stole '. The watch has been identified by a lady, who has long re sided in the neighborhood, and one that she was desirous of purchasing, and as It has been a particularly hanlaorue one, of an unique pattern, there seems little doubt but that she is correct in her assertion. The present whereabouts of Mr Greenfield la unknown, but there is now every probability that a correct solution of the mystery will be arrived at. Lyttelton Times.
