THE PETREL CASE.

Auckland, June 8. The charge of board the American, whaler Petrel investigated by the Consul. After taking evidence of all the crow, he considers there is a case for the officers to answer, and has resolved to hold an enquiry open to the press, when the officers will be present. It has transpired that a seaman named Lake was drowned daring the cruise, and be Is said to have been ill-used as mao’! as the coper was. All the men on bond corroborate the statements of the deserters as to the ill-treatment all round. The enquiry tikes place at RueseL Mr Campbell, solicitor, has gone to represent the officers.
