THE FIRE BRIGADE.
To XHS Editor.
Sir, —I would like to call the attention I of ** Chispa ” to the fact that it was not a request by the Ashburton Volunteer Fire I Brigade that the Council should make the members of the Brigade honorary members I of,the Public Library, but a favor asked I for by Cr Thomas —a request which will , do Or Thomas no harm, and as he has I set the ball rolling the Fire Brigade would I be standing in their own way to try and I stop it, - and if the ratepayers are going to give a push so much the better. We will I admit the fact when “ Chispa ” says there I .is not one-of the old Brigade but will I L allow that he has said and written about many complimentary things of the fire- I men as any man. I will not argue the I point with “Chispa” as to whether the Ashburton Billet and Western Fire Bri- I gade have not as good a claim on the free I privileges of' oar Pablio Library as the I Ashburton Fire Brigade. Let them fire I their own shots. All I can say is that in I the' event of the Bifles and the Western Brigade having the free privilege “Chispa” would pet two shots, he being a member I of both noble bodies. I lam, etc..
Fireman No. 2.
