STREET CORNER LARRIKINS.

To th« Editor. Sib, —There are larrikins in Ashburton, sad tome of tbem are of a very bad class. last evening I read a letter in your paper re street corners, complaining of the offensive langaage used and the offensive re marks passed by a number of young men —(?) larrikins—wlio congregate at street corners. This, Sir, is most noticeable-on Sundays, when, if a respectable person wishes to pass one of these mobs, he has to undergo » great deal of insulting language, and I assure yon, Sir, this is too often the case. Ido not wish to occupy your spaee In dating the different periods at which I hare been insulted by these people ss it , would take up too much space, but suffice it to say that on Saturday evening and Sunday last I was not allowed to go by one of these mobs without hearing offensive remarks passed about me. Ido not know why "X" calls such people as these men, because there is nothing manly 'about them. It matters not if it be a lady . or-ladies Who pass by these larrikins. I have repeatedly been a witness of the fact that they show such extremely bad breed- . mto insult even these. Therefore I assert It is high time these heathens —pardon my expression, Sir for the sake of the respectable portion of the community, be taken in hand by our police, and brought, if possible, to their proper senses. I should not have made this complaint had it not been that T find other persons, like myself, are determined to put down each dastardly behavior, and by this I wish' to inform "X " that I should help in protecting the rights of respectable people. Thanking yoa for inserting this iu your valuable paper, ■ I am, etc., July 15, 1885. Ike.
