(Sharp) 0 Betting—3 to 2 on Billy. Billy and Gaiters led alternately for the first half mile with the filly in close attendance, Jackdaw, six lengths away, last. Turning into the straight Gaiters held a slight lead, but Billy caught him at the distance, and a grand struggle resulted in a length victory for the top weight. Totalisator, 266—138—L1 14s. Tima—lmin 47£secs. Post Stakes Handicap, of 20 sovs; one mile.

Mr T. Qaxil’s b m Piiacexa Royal, syrs, 10st 71b (Derrett) 1 Mr J. Betting—3 to 2 on Princess Royal. After considerable delay at the ipost daring which Brown Rose and Flirt broke away and galloped the whole distance, the field was despatched to a fair start. Malta, Steamer and Princess Royal led to the first turn, Frantic occupying a good position behind the leaders. At the half mile post Mr Smith’s gelding went to ♦he front, and was in command as they turned into the straight, but (Derrett brought Princess Royal up on the inside and had the race won at the distance, ultimately finishing two lengths in front of Frantic, the rest of the field a long way off.

Second Day. Superb weather favored the second day of the meeting, and as several of the races promised to be of an interesting character, the attendance was natnrally large, he Ashburton Band, as was the case yesterday, occupied a position on the lawn, and supplied an excellent selection

of music throughout the day, adding very much to, the attractions of the day. The officials were again an fait in their respective positions, and Mrs Woodley, who was in charge of both the publicans’ booths, furnished an excellent luncheon, and did an apparently satisfactory business. Before the racing commenced the Stewards met and considered a protest lodged by the owner of r lirt against Princess Royal receiving the Post Stakes, -alleging -that the break away above referred to was a legitimate start, and that his mare won. The protest was disallowed.
