FIRE ON THE C.J.C. RACECOURSE.

(by telegraph ) Christchurch, To-day, - Information that the smaller of the two stands at the racecourse is on fire, and that the fire is extending to the large one, has just been received in town. Laxeb. The half-crown stand on tte racecourse was destroyed by fire this morning, and the shilling stand had a very narrow escape. Some workmen had left a fire in a stove, and it is believed the southwest gale of this morning blew the embers on to s quantity of inflammable material lying about. The insurance is L6OO in the Union Office.
