ASHBURTON GAS CO.

The sixth annual meeting of the Ashburton 6m, Coal, and Coke Company, Limited, was held at the Arcade Chamberajfthis afternoon. There was a fair attendance, and Mr Thomas Bullock, the Chairman of the Board of Directors, occupied the-'chair. The minutes of the last meeting having been read and confirmed, the Chairman moved the adoption of :tfae-. report and balance sheet, which had been distributed to shareholders. The following was the text of the report : -—The Directors submit their report and balance-sheet for the year ending 30th September, 1884. During the year the mains have been extended, and there has been a proportionate ii. crease in the consumption. The annexed statement of e>fit and loss shows a net result of ,193 4s 7d. From this sum the Directors' propose to pay a dividend on the paid-up capital of Lll per centum per annum, to apply 160 in paying off the balance of preliminary expanses, to add LIOO to th# Reserve Fand, and to carry for-

ward the balance of L163-4s 7d. The re- • tiring Directors are Messrs Douglas, Mayo, ; and Bullock, but are eligible and offer • ' themselves for re-election. It will also . be necessary to elect an auditor in terms > of' Articles. of Association. ’

The adoption of the report and balancesheet was seconded by Mr E. G. Wright and carried. ■ On the -motion of Mr E, : G. Vrighi, , this Directors were authorised to pay the : dividend proposed in their report. The retiring Directors were re-elected. • On- the motion of Mr Quill, Mr Geo. , Jameson was appointed auditor. The Chairman proposed, and Mr E. G. .Wright seconded, a hearty vote of thanks • officers of the Company, which carried unanimously. Mr Joseph Palmer proposed a vote of £' . thanks to the Directors, and took occasion to highly eulogise those gentlemen for the attention they had given to the interests of the shareholders. The chairman acknowledged the compliment. The meeting then adjourned.
