London, June The appointment of M. Le Bouchere, civilian, as Governor of New Caledonia, has led to several changes in the control of the naval station of that island. The naval division is to be abolished, and the Governor in future is not to have control of the fleet.
A letter which has been published from Baron MaqLeay, who is in Sydney, advocates the annexation by Russia of the whole of the independeut islands of the Pacific, which can be used as naval stations. Foo Chow, Juno 5 An agreement amongst the various Australian shippers of tea was completed today. It is arranged that the steamer Killarney shall be despatched for Melbourne fourteen days after the market opens. London, June 5. It is officially reported that 400 French criminals are to be shipped from Toulon to New Caledonia on the 15th inst. A letter from Mr R. A. Adams, of Sydney, is published in the Times this morning on the recidiviste question. He asserts that the people of New South Wales are not alarmed at the threatened transportation of French criminals to New Caledonia, and that the whole agitation is of a spurious character. London. June 9.
A report is current that the British Government intend to withdraw all f .ngliah officials snd troops from Egypt on a definite day, provided that the position of the ruling Khedive is secured. The Great Powers are to appoint a Board to control the finances of the country. The Times this morning comments upon the report, and denounces in strong terms any surrender of the controlling influence in Egypt now exercised by the British Government.
