[van ukutku's aokncy.] No Confidence. Melbourne, Yesterday. In the Assembly this evening Sir Bryan O'Loghlen said that the Government had resolved to treat the motion introduced by Mr Francis that the proposed remission of taxation was inconvenient and undesirable, as one of want of confidence. The Premier further stated that the Government had resolved to modify the proposals for the remission of taxation set forth in the Budget speech before Mr Francis' motion was tabled. The House has adjourned till Tuesday next. The Political Situation. Melbourne, To-day. Rumors are current that in view of the present political crisis Government intend to ask for a dissolution, but the statement requires confirmation. Failing an amicable settlement between the Ministeralists and the Opposition the defeat of the Government is considered certain. An Unholy Alliance. A meeting has been held between Mr Berry and 22 of the Opposition, and a coalition is deemed probable. It has transpired that Mr Berry and his supporters have intimated their readiness to join Mr Francis and support his motion condemning the proposed remission of taxation. Shipping. Arrived, yesterday morning—Steamship Te Anau, from the Bluff. Sydney, To-day. Sailed, yesterday —Zealandia, s.s., for Auckland. The Miners' Strike. The negotiations which were recently resumed at Newcastle with a view to the termination of the miners' strike have failed, as no agreement could be come to as to tiie basis upon which the arbitration should be proceeded with. The men have now submitted their ultimatum to Mr Gregson, the manager of the Agricultural Company's colliery, who is considering the same.
