THE WESLEYAN CONFERENCE.

Christchurch, Yesterday. The following from our Christchurch correspondent reached us too late for publication yesterday : —Most of the lay members of the Conference were present this morning. . The Waikato ' question was re-opened through a

telegram beijig sent from the officials, the result being that the circuit was divided into three. The income of the home mission fund was La,43 7 t 2 s id, of whjich L 607 3s rod was raised in |the Canterbury district, , being some L4O less than the estimates ( for the year. The expenditure for the , year was La,534 10s about , L 96 above the income, and this was solely due to money paid to the St. Albans and Leeston circuits in con- 1 nection willl the Tararua disaster. A . question of (the prepayment of a sum of ; money by tine Committee was allowed. There was i a charge against the conduct of one of the ministers, which was considered in Committee, with the result that:: was not sustained. The ever ing session was opened by devotional exercises, led by Messrs J. -Manchester and Keall. Several others present having spoken on the work being done at various places, Mr Buchanan : spoke of what was being done at Ashburton, and was . followed by Rev. J. J. Lewis, who referred to the work done at Waimate in connection with the mission of Mrs Hampson. Several others, both ministers and laymen, spoke at length of successes from one end of the colony to the other. The conversation terminated by passing a resolution, on the motion of the secretary, expressive of gratitude for the unparalleled progress of the Church during the past year, as shown by the increase of 465 Church members, 460 Sunday scholars, and 2,470 attendants on the services, with 730 on trial for membership, and urging a fuller consecration to Church work and the study of the Holy Scriptures. ■ [by telegraph.] i Christchurch, To-day.
