ELGIN SCHOOL COMMUTES.

At the annual meeting of the householders of the Elgin educational district, Mr J, Stanley Bruce (the late Chau man of the School Committee) was voted to the chair.

The following annual report from the past Committee was read and adopted—- “ Since the last annual meeting the Committee have' to make the following report : That the Board of Education made an investigation into Mr Albert Proudlock’s conduct, which resulted in the Board terminating his engagement as master on the 19th November last. The Board of Education temporarily appointed Mr T. M. Wilson in charge, but have since permanently appointed Mr Walter J. King, of the Pleasant Valley School. In accordance with sections 82 and 103 of the Education Act, the accounts for the past year have been audited by Mr W. fl. Boyle, and certified to as being correct. They further give a credit balance in favor of the Committee of L 8 12s lid. The Committee gave a fortnight’s holidays from: the 23rd Dec., terminating on the 6tb instant., and request the new Committee to fix the general holidays to take effect during harvest. They further recommend that the children shall have a school treat on the last day if their vacation, as there will be more time to spare after harvest than at present. The Committee beg to accord a vote of thanks to Mr T. M. Wilson for his courtesy and assistance.”

The Chairman, after referring to the several clauses in the Education Act touching on elections of School Committees, called on the householders present to nominate candidates, which resulted in the re-election of all the members of the old Committee but one, who declined to be nominated —Messrs John Cochrane, J. Stanley Bruce, Andrew Letham, David Cochrane, S. Scott, Geo. Cox, and James Skilling. At a meeting held immediately after the election of the Committee, Mr J. Stanley Bruce was unanimously appointed Chairman for the ensuing year, and it was decided that the general holidays should commence on Friday, the 27th inst., and terminate on the 2nd March.
