HOSPITAL COMMITTEES.
A special meeting of these Committees was held this morning, at the County Council offices. Present —His Worship the Mayor (in the chair), Messrs A. Harrison, E. G. Wright, Cameron, J. Jackson, St Hill, and Ivess. Mr St Hill moved, Mr Wright seconded —“ That the County and Borough Councils be recommended to take under their joint control the administration of the charitable aid within the borough and county of Ashburton.”—Carried. Mr Wright moved, Mr St Hill seconded —That the local contribution to the maintenance of the Hospital be apportioned between the county and borough in Sortion to the population in the two icts.”—-Carried, i JEt was resolved to sqnd eppies of these resolutions to the Town'Clerk. 1 ;
the event of the bodies adopting the above resolutions, a committee of management from each local body be appointed. Mr Wright moved and Mr A. Harrison seconded —“ That the committee of management be composed of five members, namely, the Chairman of the County Council, the Mayor of the Borough, ex officio, and three other members, two to be elected annually by the County Council and one by the Borough Council.
Mr Ivesa moved and the Chairman seconded—“ That in the event of the joint bodies adopting the recommendation of this conference, the arrangement for the management of the Hospital and the dispensation of charitable aid be fixed for one year only, or until such period as the General Assembly may make provision for the management of Hospitals. ” —The resolution on being put was lost, three voting for it and four against. After some other routine business the meeting adjourned.
