[pur press association.] The Fatal Accident at Havelock. Havelock, To-day. At the inquest on the body of Charles O’Donnell, held at Canvasstown yesterday, the verdict was that “deceased was accidentally killed ibv a loaded truck passing over him, and! the jury are further of opinion that a duly qualified medical man should be appointed by Government to have medical fees from Maoris in this district.

The Ij.echabites. New Plymouth, To-day. Yesterday a deputation from the Rechabites, waited uponjthe Grand Lodge, with an address of welcome and congratulations, which was responded to by Sir W. Fox. The election of officers was postponed till to-day. New Plymouth Breakwater. The steamer Westport arrived this day, at Moturoa, with cement for the New Plymouth harbor works, and will land it at the breakwater. A Drunken Spree. Patea, To-day.

A fight between natives and two Europeans occurred at Whenumakura Hotel last evening. Kereopa, ex-con-stable, was stabbed in the hand, in consequence of which thli other Maoris broke the windows of this hotel and took his part. The affair :|.rose from a drunken squable. f A Faulty Tuhb. Wellington, To-day. Tubb, who was arrested on a charge of stealing LIOO belonging to the firm of Tubb and Fergus, Timaru, has been remanded to Timaru. Food for the Flames. Nelson, To-day. A seven-roomed house in Wellington street was destroyed by fire early this morning. Mrs Monday, the occupant, had her furniture insured in the Norwich Union office for Ll5O, and Mr H. D. Williams, the owner, was insured in the Union for a similar sum. The origin of the fire is unknown. Nothing was saved.

Spending the Balance. Timaru, To-day. The Borough Council have resolved to spend a portion of the LII.OOO balance of waterworks loan in extending the supply to some of the suburbs. Lucky Timaru* Steady progress is being made with the filling in of the ground reclaimed by the breakwater, which is to bo used as a site for the; new railway station, and a gang of men Are preparing new shunting lines thereof.
