Consols have fallen }i, and are today quoted at New Zealand Five per Cent. 10-40 Loan, 104 ; Five per Cent. 1889 Loan, 104; Four and a Half per Cent. 1879-1904 Loan, 10024. Adelaide wheat is unchanged at 575, ex store; New Zealand ditto, 52s 6d ; Adelaide flour, ex store, 425. The total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain is 3,300,000 quarters. Australian tallow—best beef, 395; best mutton, 41s 6d. Pig iron, No. 1, f.o.b. in Clyde, 52s per ton. Delivery of the Mails.

The Australian and New Zealand mails via San Francisco, which left Auckland on 12th October, were delivered here to-day. South African News. No confirmation has yet been received of the statements contained in the Standard telegram of the 16th inst., that Mopoch, one of the leading chiefs in the Lyndenburg district of the Transvaal, has declared war against the Boers. Intelligence is, however, to hand from Durban (Natal) that the the telegraph line between that place and Pretoria is broken, and no news regarding the reported outbreak of natives can therefore be obtained. A Conservative Victory. London, Nov. 19.

The election for the vacancy in the representation of Stafford, caused by the death of Mr A. M'Donald, the Liberal member, took place to-day, and resulted in the return of Mr T. Salt, Conservative, by a majority of 297. The

Irish voters claim that the Conservative victory was due to their support. Qone to Conter with Gambetta. Sir Charles Dilke, Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, has left London for Paris, to confer with Gambetta and his colleagues in regard to the AngloFrench Commercial Treaty negotiations.

Eight escapees from the French penal settlement at New Caledonia have been captured at Fraser Island, off the coast of this colony, near Maryborough. The escapees had been thirteen days at sea in an open boat. They were brought up at the Maryborough Police Court to-day and remanded to Brisbane. Arrived. Sydney, To-day. Arrived, yesterday morning—Union Company’s steamship Wakatipu, from Wellington. Three More Cases of Small-pox. Three fresh cases of small-pox have been reported to the Health Board. The sufferers and infected houses are in Liverpool, Sussex, and Cooper streets. All the victims of the disease have been quarantined. A Fatal Pleasure Excursion. Brisbane, To-day. A boat, containing a fishing party of five, was capsized in the Bay yesterday, and four of the occupants were drowned.
