The gale damaged property all over the country, unroofing and wrecking hundreds of houses in Ireland and Scotland, and killing many people. Forty-five fishermen reported at Barnmouth and Egmouth, Scotland, and fifty at Berwickshire, at sea during the gale are given up as lost. Seventy Dunbar fishermen are reported as drowned ; also three pilots in the Tyne. At Stockton-on-Tees, five persons were killed by falling of roofs. The steamer Cyprian, from Liverpool to Genoa, was wrecked on the Welsh coast, and twenay-two Ib’es were lost. Eightyfive vessels in all are lost, and the approximate value of property destroyed is L 8,000,000. The telegraph wires are down in every direction, and communication is uncertain. Most of the land wires connecting with England and the Continent are broken.
