[per press association.] Funeral Sermons. Auckland, To-day. At all the churches funeral sermons were preached yesterday with reference to the Tararua disaster. Mr. McNicol, Presbyterian minister, who was a recent passenger by the Tararua, condemned the absence of precautions in lifebelts not being furnished, as on the Rotomahana. A Vacancy in Parliament. Greymouth, To-day. Mr Ed ward Masters has sent his resignation to the Speaker, from Melbourne, where he is now. His medical adviser says that to attend the coming session, in his present state of health, would cost him his life. Sudden Death. Dunedin, To-day. A Good Investment. A private telegram received here states that D.O.D. won the Goodwood Stakes Handicap at Adelaide. There was only one investor on the totalisator on the course. He received LB3G. Sold at Auction. The wreck of the Tararua was purchased at auction by the Union Company for L2O.
