THE RAILWAY ENGINE SHFD.
Messrs Nelson and Coutts, the contractors for the additions and alterations to the railway engine shed, have this morning received a telegram from the Government instructing them not to proceed further with the work until definite instructions are again forwarded. It is to be hoped that this means that the Government intend to have the shed removed out of Baring square. If this is done, the wishes of the townspeople in Ashburton will be fully carried out, and through their views being pretty plainly expressed at the public meeting held here a short time back, the Government, have seen, no doubt, the necessity of removing the shed to a more suitable site. We wonder where that site will be ? It is already hinted that opposite the Bank of New Zealand is the chosen position, but we cannot vouch for the correctness or otherwise of the statement.
