An attempt was made last night to break into the Bank of Victoria at Seymour, in the North-eastern District. The manager, however, came across the burglars, who were frightened off by his revolver. Bank of New South Wales. Sydney, April 29.

The ordinary half-yearly meeting of shareholders of the Bank of New South Wales was held here to-day to receive the report of the directors for half-year ended 31st March. The balance-sheet showed that the profits for the half-year amounted to 1.93,066, to which has to be added the balance carried forward from the previous half-year, 1.2,523, giving thetotal available for division, 195,589. The following appropriations were recommended—To paymentof adividend at the rate of 15 per cent, per annum, 175,000; bonus at the rate 0f222y 2 per cent, per annum, 112,500; carried to the reserve fund 15,000, leaving a balance to be carried forward of 13,089. The report was unanimously adopted by the meeting.
