[per reuter’s agency.] A Marked Man. Brisbane, To-day. The steamer Brisbane has arrived at Cooktown, from Hong Kong, with 350 Chinese. One of them is suffering from small pox, and the vessel has therefore been quarantined The Transcontinental Railway. Mr MTlraith, the Premier, telegraphs from London that he has come to an agreement for a company to carry out the Transcontinental Railway Scheme, subject to surveys confirming representations which have been made. A surveying expedition will leave London for Queensland in the middle of May.
Sugar. Melbourne, April 22. Mauritius advices to the Bth instant report that engagements of sugar amount 10425 tons for Adelaide, 1,100 tons for Melbourne, and 450 tons for other ports. The tone of the market was then unchanged. The Plate. Sydney, April 22. The following are the acceptances for the AJ.C. Plate, to be run for tomorrow: —Progress, Wellington, Sapphire, Martindale, Good Morning, Orient, Richmond and Canary. Going to the MinesCommunications are passing between Sir Henry Parkes, Premier and Colonial Secretary of New South Wales, and the Governor of Hong Kong, relative to the present Chinese rush to this colony.
