(Per Press Association.) Forgery. Auckland, To-day. Edward Hart dagger, charged at the Police Court with forging a promissory note, uttered in the case of Purcell, a bankrupt, was remanded. The Albion Collision Inquiry. At the Albion collision enquiry to-day, Kent, second mate of the Albion, deponed that before he left the deck at four he saw two small coasters. After the collision the lights on the Isabella Pratt were certainly not burning. Tho Court said they were satisfied the Albion’s lights were all right. The engineer stated that the order to stop the Albion was immediately obeyed, but there wap not time to reverse the engine before the collision occurred. Tho steamer’s funnel was emitting dense smoke. Johnston, a seaman on tho lookout, said that about eight minutes after he went on watch he saw the schooner coming up to their bow on the starboard side, apparently only twenty yards distant. Smoke prevented him seeing it before. Did not see any lights. The inquiry is proceeding. Embezzlement. James Faust Bell, stationmaster at Otaupo, was charged at the Auckland Court with the embezzlement of LB3, Government money. He was remanded. " Embezzlement.

Hawbba, To-day. Wilkinson, Receiver of Land Revenue, was brought up, on remand, yesterday, charged with embezzling Ll 6 3s. Mr Barleyman, Crown Prosecutor, asked for a remand, as the officer for the treasury was up investigating the accounts, but he had not yet been able to go through all of them. Mr Ward, solicitor for Wilkinson, opposed the remand, but the Bench granted it till Tuesday next. Mr Ward asked that the bail might be reduced, but this was refused. Mr Ward said that be hoped the Bench had not been swayed by an article which in the Patea Mail of Thursday, and strongly animadverted on its contents. Mr Barleyman agreed with Mr Ward, and deprecated comments on it whilst the case was before the Court. The Bench agreed with the remarks made by counsel, but stated that it had not been influenced in any way by the comments in the newspaper alluded to. Accidently Shot. Wellington, To-day. At Porirua, yesterday, a lady named Morgan had her shoulder lacerated through the accidental discharge of a gun while out shooting rabbits. Another Shooting Case. Timaru, To-day. A clerk named Holthouse, while practising with a pistol in his back yard last evening, struck a little boy, named George Healy, over the region of the heart with a bullet. The injury is serious, tut not likely to be fatal. Holthouse has been arrested and remanded.

Stealing Timber. .Robert Boys, aged twelve was ordered to be whipped and sett to the industrial school for a month, to-day, for stealing L2 worth of dressed timber. The Lucky Ones. Dunedin, To-day. In Cameron’s sweep on the Cup the first prize goes to Mr John O. Eva, Dunedin ; the second to Invercargill, and the third to Oamaru. The Majority. Five new insolvencies have been filed during the week. The Railway Accident. Mayo continues unconscious, but i 8 gradually sinking. Lloyd is progressing favorably. The Steamers. The Union Steamship Company have received advice that the steamer Orient leaves Sydney on April 8, and the Cotopaxi on March 26.
