The Grammar School Board of Governors have decided to hold, in committee, an inquiry into the charges of want of organisation in the College made by Dr. Purchase. A letter from the head masters, requesting an investigation into the management and organisation during his connection with the institution, was deferred for further consideration. Very Important. Gisborne, To-day. Mr. Finn, M.H.R., who is on a visit to this district, has been retained as counsel on several important questions affecting land titles in Poverty Bay, and will not in consequence be able to leave here for some little time. Fashionable Arrivals. Wellington, To-day. His Excellency the Governor returned from his Northern trip last night The Australian cricketers arrived this morning. A large crowd assembled on the wharf, and amost hearty reception was accorded them. The Wesleyan Conference. Nelson, To-day. The remaining business at the Conference yesterday was as follows :—lt was resolved, that, when a travelling preacher was so unacceptable or inefficient as to be no longer useful, the Conference might ask him to request a location, and on refusal, that the Conference at its first meeting thereafter should, without trial, locate him without his consent. It was agreed that a book' of discipline be provided by the General Conference, suitable for the people, and other resolutions bearing on the constitution of the quarterly meeting, the desirability of Methodist union, Church rules, etc., were discussed and carried. Votes of thanks to the ministers of Nelson circuit and the reception committee for the great assiduity and kindness which they displayed in the arrangements of the Conference and the. comfort of the representatives; to the 1

ladies who had waited at the dinner tables ; and to the friends who had displayed such unbounded hospitality in entertaining the ministers, were carried. Thanks were also presented to the Rev. Mr. Williams, Assistant Seretary; Rev. Mr. Carr, Journal Secretary ; Rev. George Bond, corresponding secretary ; to Revs. Arraitage, Fairclough, and Bond, for reporting ; and to the local press. The journal was then read and signed by the President and Secietary. It was decided to hold the next Confei’ence in 1882 in Christchurch. Thus closed the most important and interesting Conference held in New Zealand. Many of the representatives left by the steamer, which was detained till a late hour last night. Filed. Dunedin, To-day.
